Mammootty recently won his fourth National Award for ‘Bramayugam’
Mammootty bags yet another big honor at the 72nd National Film Awards. The veteran actor was sharing the Best Actor award with Kartik Aaryan, who won for his performance in Chandu Champion. Mammootty was appreciated for his performance in the 2024 movie Bramayugam.
The win adds to Mammootty’s long and celebrated career with a National Award. The actor, who is known for taking very different roles, received widespread praise for his performance in the 2024 period horror film.
Mammootty’s spine-chilling act in Bramayugam
Bramayugam, set in 17th century Kerala, is directed by Rahul Sadasivan and stars Mammootty as Kodumon Potti, a mysterious feudal landlord who takes center-stage in the story. The film is entirely in black and white, and takes a different approach to horror. It creates tension through atmosphere and psychology rather than relying heavily on jump scares. One of the biggest talking points post the release of the film was Mammootty’s performance.
Bramayugam which was released in February 2024 received great reviews from both critics and audience. It also went on to become one of the biggest Malayalam hits of the year. Sacnilk informs that the film has minted approx Rs 27.85 crore net in India and has surpassed Rs 56 crore worldwide gross.
Following its theatrical run, Bramayugam was made available on Sony LIV for digital audiences to watch Mammootty’s National Award-winning performance from the comfort of their homes.
On the work front, he will be next seen in Dhanush’s Om: He will also be seen in Nithish Sahadev’s Mela. Chapter 1.
