New Delhi:Aamir Khan Productions has announced its next feature film, Silkyara 41, in collaboration with Australia's Mind Blowing Films and Kabir Khan Films. Inspired by the real-life Silkyara Tunnel rescue in Uttarakhand, the film will bring to the screen one of India's most remarkable rescue missions.
What is the story of Silkyara 41?
The story will centre around the operation that rescued the 41 workers trapped inside the tunnel, and will highlight the role of internationally renowned tunnelling expert Arnold Dix, whose expertise was crucial during the mission. Silkyara 41 is a major Indo-Australian film collaboration, directed by Kabir Khan and written by Australian screenwriter Andrew Anastasios. The project brings together filmmakers and production teams from both countries to tell a story of courage, teamwork and resilience.

“We are excited to announce this landmark collaboration between Mind Blowing Films and Productions,” said . The Silkyara Tunnel rescue story touched me a lot. It is a story of courage, resilience, ingenuity and humanity against impossible odds. We are especially happy to announce this on this historic day when India and Australia are opening a new chapter in our bilateral relationship. "It feels appropriate that it is today we are announcing this wonderful film to be made by our two countries and based on a story celebrating international cooperation and the triumph of the human spirit."
Director Kabir Khan explains why the story instantly clicked with him. The Silkyara Tunnel rescue story is one of the most extraordinary human dramas to have emerged in recent times. It is a story of courage, resilience and the collective resolve to surmount what seemed like insurmountable challenges. What drew me most to the project was its very human dimension - the lives at stake, the families waiting anxiously, the extraordinary people who came together to make the rescue possible. “I am honored to be able to tell this amazing true story on the screen.”
Arnold Dix, who played a key role in the rescue, said the rescue was a team effort. “The Silkyara rescue was never a one-person thing. It was about people from different disciplines, cultures and backgrounds coming together with one purpose – to bring home 41 workers safely. “I’m honoured that this extraordinary story will be brought to audiences everywhere and hope it serves as a reminder of what we can achieve when we all work together.”
Founder and CEO of Mind Blowing Films, Mitu Bhowmick Lange too expressed her excitement on the project. “From the instant I learned about the Silkyara rescue, I knew this was a story for the big screen. It is a tale of hope, of perseverance and of collective resolve. It’s really special to be associated with Aamir Khan Productions for this project. “We are proud to create what we believe will be a landmark Indo-Australian cinematic collaboration and a celebration of the deepening friendship between our two countries.”

Not only does it make that relationship stronger, but it tells our shared story to the world – a story of family, hard work, connection to community, hope and a love of the film industry. “We have so much in common and that’s what I look forward to seeing from this production.
“There is no greater story of Australian and Indian collaboration than Silkyara 41 and I’m so glad that it’s going to be told on the big screen,” Australian Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for the Arts Tony Burke added.
