Colombo:The Indian team continued their second Test of the ongoing series against Sri Lanka. Day 2 of the clash began with India on a score of 300/5, and the side began the day with Dhruv Jurel and Saransh Jain at the crease. While Saransh was dismissed in the early stages of the day, Rishabh Pant came out to bat once more.
It is worth noting that Pant was retired hurt on day 1 of the clash on a score of three runs but put forth a good showing on the second day. The star wicketkeeper-batter ended up scoring 63 runs off 89 deliveries to his name, putting India in a dominant position.
As for Dhruv Jurel, the star batter put forth a magnificent performance as well. brilliantly and was crucial to the Indian team posting a mammoth total on the board in the first innings. Jurel amassed 115* runs to his name as India declared on a score of 503 runs to their name.
As for Sri Lanka, Asitha Fernando was the highest wicket-taker in the first innings with four wickets to his name. Keshara Nuwantha and Prabath Jayasuriya took two wickets each, with Lahiru Kumara taking one wicket as well.
Sri Lanka lost crucial wickets in rain-marred final sessionWith the Indian team coming out to bowl, bad weather played spoilsport once more as covers came on the field. However, 25 minutes of play was permitted in the end, and that session of play was rueful for the hosts. Prasidh Krishna struck early for India as Lahiru Udara departed on a score of one run.
Furthermore, Manav Suthar continued his run of red-hot form as he dismissed Prabath Jayasuriya for two runs. The second day of the clash ended with Sri Lanka on a score of 8/2, and the side trailing India by 495 runs. India got the perfect end to what seems to be a perfect day of cricket for the side.
The side will hope for a similar showing with the ball on day 3 and limit Sri Lanka to hopefully enforce a follow-on going forward.
