Washington:Iran said on Friday its air defence systems had intercepted and destroyed a "hostile" United States aircraft in the Jam region of Bushehr province. The aircraft was downed in the area of Bushehr province, Iranian state television quoted Masoud Tangestani, governor of Jam County, as saying.
U.S. Denies Iranian ClaimBut the United States has rejected Iranian media reports that a US aircraft was shot down over Iran's Bushehr province. Central Command said "no American aircraft were shot down."
US Central Command (CENTCOM) dismissed the claims in a post on X, saying: “No US aircraft were shot down. “All U.S. air assets have been accounted for.”
U.S., Iran deal awaits Trump’s OKThe reports came as tensions rose in the Gulf region, even as signs emerged that the US and Iran were moving towards extending a ceasefire and relaxing restrictions on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
The US and Iran have reportedly agreed in principle to extend the ceasefire in their three-month conflict by another 60 days while starting negotiations over Tehran's nuclear programme. A US official familiar with the discussions told AP that President Donald Trump still has to approve the proposed deal before it can be finalised.

The Islamic Republic is seeking the lifting of economic sanctions and the release of frozen assets to help its shattered economy, while the US is trying to convince Iran to get rid of its stockpile of highly enriched uranium.
