New Delhi:had a bit of an off-day with the bat in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s 2026 clash against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday. However, the batting maestro shattered a major T20 world record despite his blip. Sakib Hussain got Kohli for 15 off 11 balls caught at covers. The wicket further dented RCB’s hopes of chasing a mammoth 256 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium as they had lost Venkatesh Iyer too.
But the RCB openers got out in the powerplay but they gave the team a flying start in the chase. Iyer, who played even after captain Rajat Patidar came in, smashed 44 off just 19 balls in a stroke-filled knock which had four sixes and as many fours.
Iyer was scoring at a brisk rate and Kohli also hit a couple of fours as RCB crossed 50 in just 3.5 overs. This helped Kohli set a new world record in T20.
Kohli sets record for most 50+ standsThe RCB maestro Kohli has now set the record of being part of the most number of fifty-plus stands in T20 cricket, breaking the record previously held by England’s . Kohli enjoys a bit of banter with Travis HeadThere was more to watch than just Iyer and Kohli scoring runs in the powerplay. The former RCB skipper engaged in a verbal spat with SRH opener Travis Head as he asked him to bowl and teased him by signalling that he was typically used as an Impact sub. Head came in to bowl the last and got RCB skipper Rajat Patidar in the 19th over.
Things didn’t seem to settle between the two post the match as Kohli avoided a handshake with Head. Kohli seemed angry with the Australian as he greeted other SRH players but ignored Head.
SRH win but miss out on top-two spotSRH beats RCB by 55 runs. SRH batted first and Abhishek Sharma (56), Ishan Kishan (79), (51) and Nitish Reddy (29) played some stellar knocks to post a mammoth 255/4. RCB bowlers were taken to the cleaners and no one had a walk in the park out in the middle.
SRH needed to restrict RCB to 165 and win the match by a margin of 90 runs to get their NRR ahead of RCB and make it to the top two. RCB though batted sensibly to ensure that they posted the required runs.
