New DelhiCongress criticizes the government:On Thursday, July 27, the Congress referred to the passing of bills in the Lok Sabha as regrettable and shameful, citing the rules, while the lower House of Parliament was still considering a motion of no confidence.
Yesterday, the Congress's motion of no confidence against the Narendra Modi government was accepted. PM Modi has been under pressure from the opposition to address the controversial Manipur issue in Parliament. However, the Opposition introduced a no-confidence motion to compel the Prime Minister to address the matter after the government declared that it was prepared to do so.
Even today, the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha's sessions were interrupted by frequent adjournments. Despite the opposition's cacophony and slogans, the Lok Sabha was able to pass two bills today.
Congress MP Manish Tewari tweeted, "It is regrettable that bill after bill is being passed in the Lok Sabha in the din."
The MP urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to begin the debate on the No-confidence, citing the regulations that he shared in his post.
"I ask Speaker @ombirlakota to begin the No Confidence motion discussion without delay. Tewari tweeted, "Passing bills while the No Confidence is still pending is a travesty."
Jairam Ramesh restates the requestAccording to Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, the opposition bloc's (I.N.D.I.A.) position in the Parliament makes it very clear that the motion should be discussed as soon as possible.
The positions of the Indian parties in Parliament are completely clear. 1. We want the Speaker to take up the no-confidence motion that the parties in the Lok Sabha made in the immediate context of Manipur as soon as possible. No legislative business can be completed until the no-confidence motion is discussed, per Rules and Conventions, Jairam tweeted.
The Opposition wants the PM to make a statement about Manipur "immediately" in the Upper House, he continued.
He tweeted, "2. We want the PM to make a statement on Manipur in the Rajya Sabha right away, followed by a discussion under Rule 267, which means that the issue being raised under this Rule takes precedence over all other issues."
The Congress Rajya Sabha MP continued, "This is the clear and consistent demand of INDIA parties so that a collective sense of anguish at what has happened in Manipur gets expressed and a collective resolve to promote peace, harmony, and reconciliation in the state gets reinforced."
Additionally, the government has rejected the opposition's demand that Modi address the Manipur issue in Parliament before a debate on the subject can begin.
Since the beginning of the Monsoon session on July 20, there has been a deadlock in both Houses.
Since ethnic violence started in Manipur on May 3, hundreds of people have been injured and over 160 people have died.
