New DelhiSince today is the last day to submit Special Intensive Revision (SIR) documents, the Election Commission (EC) is probably going to extend the deadline. Today, a high-level review meeting regarding the ongoing voter list verification process is anticipated to be held by the top poll panel.
Over 99 percent of SIR-related work has already been finished in the state, according to Uttar Pradesh's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO). He has, however, requested an extra 14 days to finish the voter list verification procedure in a letter to the Election Commission. In the state, there are currently more than 2.90 crore pending verification forms.
The deadline for verification was originally set for December 4, but it was later extended to December 11. It is now anticipated that the deadline will be further extended.
Rechecking and updating records are necessary. In order to give officials more time to double-check voter records, UP CEO Navdeep Rinwa has asked for an extension. According to him, the extra time would assist district election teams in verifying the information of voters who have passed away, relocated, or are unreachable.
Rinwa claims that 14 districts, including 132 assembly segments and 1,43,509 polling places, have finished digitizing their electoral records.
He emphasized that assistance in submitting Form-6 for enrollment should be provided to any eligible citizen whose name does not appear in the draft 2025 electoral roll. It is also necessary to encourage young people who will turn 18 by January 1, 2026, to register.
He urged all recognized political parties to back the verification effort, particularly in identifying voters who have moved, died, are absent, or are duplicates.
By December 12, booth-level officers must provide updated lists to booth-level agents so that the data can be posted on the district and CEO websites.
Since November 4, the state has been working on a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list.
