New DelhiChinmayi Sripada, a singer and dubbing artist, is renowned for expressing her candid thoughts on the most important issues. She disclosed how she was being harassed online on Wednesday, December 10, when she shared a photo of herself that had been altered by a troll.
Chinmayi released a video addressing the online threats she has been receiving in recent weeks and reported the incident to Hyderabad City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar in an X (formerly Twitter) post.
Death threats are made against Chinmayi Sripada
Chinmayi clarified that after her husband, actor and filmmaker Rahul Ravindran, made a remark regarding mangalasutra a few weeks prior, the animosity grew. She disclosed that the amount of trolling directed at her and her family has significantly increased since then. The singer posted a video of herself and a blurry morphed image online, writing, "I got a morphed image from a page today and tagged the cops - whether legal action will happen or not is not the issue." However, I created this video to protect girls and their families from the "Lanja Munda"-spewing individuals who have been paid to harass our family (sic) for the last eight to ten weeks.
"I have been abused, my children have received death threats, and I have filed a police complaint against a few on the Twitter Spaces who said that the kind of women they don't like should never have children, and if they do, their children must die," she said in her video message. Men were laughing and cheering at this.
Chinmayi went on to say that since she reported being harassed by a lyricist, she has been singled out on several occasions. "Many people have mistreated me; political organizations have funded them. Today, there was a specific tweet that featured a modified picture of me in my undies. "I'm sharing this to let women know that men do this to force us out of public areas," she stated.
"In the future, it will be extremely common for men to use power and technology to disparage women they dislike. They were once referred to as prostitutes, witches, and black magicians. If they didn't get the woman they wanted, they would spread false information about her to make her life miserable. Society has always operated in this manner.
She made her position clear, warning that the emergence of deepfakes and AI will put more women in danger from people who disagree with them or want retribution. Additionally, Chinmayi advised parents, women, and girls to take legal action if they experience similar harassment.
What was said by Rahul Ravindran, the husband of Chinmayi Sripada?
In November, while promoting The Girlfriend, director-actor Rahul Ravindran made a remark on mangalsutra that angered some social media users. "I told my wife Chinmayi that it was her choice whether or not to wear mangalsutra after we were married," he stated. I even recommended against wearing it because it's unjust that women are expected to wear a wedding band while men do not."
Since then, Chinmayi Sripada has been keeping the trolls on X quiet.
