New Delhi:Actor has been slapped with a Non-Cooperation Directive (NCD) by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) over his alleged last-minute withdrawal from filmmaker Farhan Akhtar’s upcoming film Don 3.
An official press release, circulated by the Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA) on Ranveer Singh’s alleged exit from the project. According to reports, Farhan Akhtar lodged the complaint on April 11, 2026, and thereafter the matter was transferred to FWICE.
The federation said it held meetings with all the stakeholders, including Farhan Akhtar and producer Ritesh Sidhwani. During the proceedings, the makers had told FWICE that they had already incurred “around Rs. 45 crores towards the pre-production of the film.” They also said that the sudden exit of a leading actor at such a late stage “could expose the producer to severe financial losses and have a negative impact on the overall execution of the film.”
It further quoted Farhan Akhtar saying, as director of the project, he had “blocked and committed his professional schedule keeping in mind the magnitude and scale of the film, more so with a big star attached to it”. FWICE also said he strongly found “such abrupt withdrawal from a committed project” unacceptable and against long-standing professional norms in the film fraternity.
FWICE further added that several communications and reminders were sent to Ranveer Singh asking him to appear before the federation in person and present his version of things so that the matter could be looked into thoroughly for a “fair, balanced and just resolution”.
But the federation later got a reply on behalf of the actor. The statement quoted Ranveer Singh as saying that FWICE “would not be the appropriate forum” where the complainants could raise their grievances and that the issues were “contractual in nature and would require adjudication before the appropriate legal forum”.
Later, FWICE stated that the office bearers of the Federation had resolved to issue a Non-Cooperation Directive against the actor “in view of the attitude shown towards the Federation and the stakeholders connected with the project”.
The federation also stated that it was willing to meet Ranveer Singh and hear his point of view in order to work towards “an amicable and final resolution in the interest of both parties”.
The film industry, FWICE added, is like “one extended family” where artists, technicians, producers, directors and workers are bound by “mutual trust, professional commitments, respect and collective responsibility”. The body also stated that “sudden exit of senior actors from projects at critical junctures poses a “serious threat to the stability and working ecology of the entertainment industry.”
