Budapest:After Donald Trump won a historic victory over pro-Trump Prime Minister Viktor Orban in Hungary's elections, an old comment by Peter Magyar, leader of the center-right opposition Tisza Party, praising Trump came back to light. On Sunday, Magyar beat Viktor Orban, the current Prime Minister of Hungary, in the election.
In November 2025, Magyar praised Trump and harshly criticized Orban's leadership. He wrote on X that Trump had never been afraid to have open and honest debates with his political opponents, but Orban "hasn't dared to do this for 20 years."
Peter Magyar's posts about Trump"What is the difference between Viktor Orbán and Donald Trump @POTUS? Donald Trump has never been afraid to have open, honest debates with people who disagree with him politically. @PM_ViktorOrban hasn't had the guts to do this in 20 years. Donald Trump has never represented foreign interests. Viktor Orban has been doing this for a very long time. Every decision Donald Trump makes serves the interests of American companies. For Viktor Orban, only his oligarchs matter," he posted on X.

He wrote on X, "Viktor Orban only cares about his oligarchs."
You can like or dislike Trump, but he is a natural leader. He said, "Viktor Orban is a copy ordered from Temu, who tries to copy the original."
In 2024, the leader of the Tisza Party congratulated Trump on beating Kamala Harris in the election. "America has made a choice. Congratulations to President Donald Trump and the new members of the Senate and House of Representatives! The United States of America is one of our most important economic and military partners. The TISZA Party is ready to work with the new American government to improve the relationship between our two countries.
Election in HungaryHungarian voters on Sunday kicked out Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who had been in office for 16 years. They did this because they didn't like his authoritarian policies and the global far-right movement he represented. Instead, they chose a pro-European challenger, which had big effects around the world.
Péter Magyar, the winner of the election, was once a supporter of Orbán. He ran on a platform of fighting corruption and addressing everyday issues like health care and public transportation. He has promised to repair Hungary's ties with the European Union and NATO, which were damaged under Orbán.
It's still not clear if Magyar's Tisza party will have the two-thirds majority in parliament that it needs to run the country without a coalition. With 77% of the votes counted, it had more than 53% of the votes, while Orban's governing Fidesz party only had 38%.
It's interesting that Magyar was once thought to be loyal to Orban. In February 2024, he broke up with the Fidesz leader after there was a scandal over a presidential pardon given to a man who had been found guilty of covering up child sexual abuse. President Katalin Novak and Judit Varga, Magyar's ex-wife and Justice Minister, both quit after the incident. Magyar said the government was "hiding behind women's skirts" and killing them to protect the regime.
