Lucknow:On Wednesday, the Lucknow Super Giants lost their first game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season. They lost to the Delhi Capitals at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Even though they lost the toss on a sticky wicket, LSG's batsmen were strong enough to put up a huge score. But in the end, they could only score 141 runs before being bowled out in the 19th over of the innings.
This was the worst time they ever batted first in the history of the IPL. The 2022 edition was LSG's first time in the cash-rich league. Before Wednesday, when they faced the reworked Delhi Capitals' bowling unit, they had never scored less than 150 runs while batting first.
Rishabh Pant opened the innings, which was a surprise, and Nicholas Pooran batted out of position, which was also a surprise. This was different from the last game. Markram came out first, and Pooran, surprisingly, batted fifth, even lower than Ayush Badoni.
As expected, both batters had a hard time, scoring 11 and 8 runs, respectively. Pant also got out in a bad way when he was run out, and they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. In the end, they were able to get over 140 runs thanks to Abdul Samad's 36-run cameo off 25 balls.
Their previous lowest first innings total was 153 against the Punjab Kings in their first season. The Super Giants would like to put on a better show soon, before it's too late, and most importantly, they need to change their batting order quickly so that low scores don't become a regular thing for them this year.
