Kolkata:14-year-old Bihar sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi just can't stop scoring runs. The southpaw appears to be finding a new gear with every game he plays, whether it be for the U19, India A, or now the senior Bihar team. He certainly did on Tuesday, December 2, when he smashed his first century for Bihar against Maharashtra in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Suryavanshi brought up his half-century off 34 balls and took just 24 more to complete his third T20 century and first in India's premier domestic T20 tournament.
After returning scores of 5, 13, and 14 in the competition thus far, Suryavanshi triumphed over a Maharashtra bowling attack that included Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Vicky Ostwal, Arshin Kulkarni, and Jalaj Saxena, among others.Just into his 17th T20 match and fifth for Bihar, Suryavanshi became the first teenager in history to score three T20 hundreds at the age of 14. Suryavanshi also became the youngest to hit a century in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the age of 14 years and 250 days.
Suryavanshi's two prior hundreds came while he was playing for India A in the Asia Cup Rising Stars match against the United Arab Emirates and earlier this year while he was playing for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.
Suryavanshi propelled Bihar to a competitive score of 176 with seven 4s and an equal number of 6s during his knock. Piyush Kumar Singh and Akash Raj were among the players who struggled, and it wasn't until Ayush Loharuka managed to score a few boundaries that Bihar's score surpassed 175. Other than that, Suryavanshi was the only player who performed well for his team.
However, his knock wasn't enough for Bihar to win the game as Maharashtra, riding on captain 's 66 off 30, chased it down in the final over. Bihar has now lost all four matches in Elite Group B and their chances of making it to the knockouts look bleak.
