The actor, who is well-known for being outspoken, is in hot water due to recent remarks. The Gully Boy actor recently encountered online criticism for mimicking a scene from Rishab Shetty's Kantara: A Legend-Chapter 1 during the IFFI 2025 closing ceremony in Goa.

Ranveer praised Rishab Shetty's performance in the film during the event, particularly the climactic scene, and even tried to recreate it. But he described the 'daiva as a "female ghost" instead. The video clip swiftly went viral and provoked criticism on social media, despite the fact that the incident made people laugh at the event.

Ranveer Singh is heard in the widely shared video stating, "I watched Kantara Chapter 1 in theatres, and Rishab, it was an outstanding performance, especially when the female ghost (Chamundi daiva) enters your body that shot was amazing." Then he mimicked the scene where Rishabh is possessed by Chamundi daiva, making everyone in the audience, including Rishabh Shetty, laugh.

Reactions to Ranveer Singh's scene imitation on the internet

The gods and goddesses worshipped by the Tulu community in Karnataka, where Daiva festivals are marked with lavish celebrations throughout villages, are portrayed in the film series Kantara. Internet users reacted negatively when Ranveer Singh called the goddess a "ghost" while applauding Risbab Shetty's performance.

"Dear @RanveerOfficial, you don't know the difference between God and Ghost," one X user commented. Chavundi is not a ghost, but a goddess. And you're actually making fun of me on a large stage."

"Ranveer Singh literally called Chavundi Mata a ghost and mimicked her in a funny way," someone else added. This is blasphemy, isn't it?
