New Delhi:India thrashed Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs in the one-off Test at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur as their spinners ran through the Afghans for just 112 in the follow-on. Washington Sundar and shared seven wickets between them in the second innings as the star of the first innings Manav Suthar and Mohammed Siraj took a wicket apiece before Sharafuddin Ashraf did not come out to bat due to injury as India recorded their biggest innings win.
The win brought smiles to the Indian camp especially after they had been thrashed 2-0 at home against South Africa late last year. It was a much-needed win for the -led side ahead of critical assignments but it did not earn them World Test Championship points.
Why didn't India get points from WTC?This match was not a part of the Test Championship 2025-27 and hence no WTC points were awarded to India. The WTC championship features the top nine-ranked Test nations and Afghanistan are not on the current roster.With this win, India is in sixth position in the points table and have four wins, one draw and four losses from nine matches they have played in this cycle. India has a PCT of 48.15%. Meanwhile, Australia are at the top of the WTC cycle with seven wins from eight matches with a PCT of 87.50. South Africa are second with three wins in four outings and a PCT of 75.

Having bowled them out for a mere 152 in the first innings and leaving them a trail of 412 runs, they asked Afghanistan to follow on. Manav Suthar had starred in the first innings with a six wicket haul as he became the 10th Indian to take a fifer on Test debut. The Afghans had a huge mountain to climb in their follow-on. The Indian bowlers continued their fine run. The bowlers kept the choke on Afghanistan despite tired legs with Sundar picking four and Kuldeep three wickets. Afghanistan were bowled out for 112 in the follow-on and India won by an innings and 300 runs.
