The Premier League 2026-27 continued with arch-rivals Manchester United and City clashing heads. The two teams met on September 13th at Old Trafford in Manchester in what is considered to be one of the biggest games in the world and it was Manchester City that emerged victorious from the contest.
It is important to point out that Manchester United were lucky in the first half of the game as City midfielder Phil Foden was dismissed for kicking Bruno Fernandes in the abdomen. City had a man sent off and many expected United to give a good account of themselves but they didn't.
Erling Haaland scored a contentious goal in the second half to give City the lead as the side won the game and picked up three vital points. Similarly, former United defender Gary Neville took center stage and spoke about what went wrong for United in the game.
“I’d like to think they’re not concentrating and focusing on the refereeing decisions, and focusing on the work they need to do on improving their performance,” Neville told Sky Sports.
"What you don't want to do is give football players or anybody excuses." That’s it. “So they have to get out there tomorrow, or whatever day it is that they get training again, and start thinking about what happens when they go down to ten men again,” he added.
Manchester United: What’s next? BrightonManchester United will come up against Brighton and Hove Albion following a dreadful start to the Premier League season. The two sides will meet in the EFL Cup on September 17th and United will hope to put in a good showing in the game and progress further into the tournament.
It is also important to mention that with the defeat to City, the 20-time league champions have fallen to 13th in the league. The side has played four matches, winning one, losing two and drawing two matches as of now. They’re having a rough start to the season so next game will be interesting to see how the side performs and if they will be able to improve or not.
