RGV took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a detailed note about the film and what impressed him the most about its filmmaking. RGV in his post wrote, "Am OBSESSED with OBSESSION..Till even a few weeks before the whole industry believed that only Big starred, massive budgeted, Vfx spectacle films will pull audience into the theatres and now OBSESSION reset that BUTTON."
He wrote of director Curry Barker's approach "The directors style is visually simplistic but very unique ( I was especially struck with his use of too much head space in many shots which strangely enhances the mood )Editing is not simply a technical craft for him but a psychological weapon that combines fast cuts with a particularly long stay (the long stay on Nikki's face in the interval shot is a case in point). These kind of long takes create unbearable tension, where the viewer is trapped in the character’s point of view with no escape.”
The director also spoke about the role of sound design in the film's impact on viewers. He cuts on sharp sound effects (a door slam, a sudden laugh, a heartbeat) to create rhythmic punctuation, and it’s awe-inspiring,” he wrote. Check it out:
“Obsession” has collected Rs 3.05 crore at the India box office till now.
Unlike a typical blockbuster, there was no scale or promotional push to Obsession, but it has emerged as one of the year's biggest success stories.
The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5, 2025, in the Midnight Madness section, before its release in US theatres on May 15, 2026, through Focus Features.
That’s a particularly impressive box office run for such a modestly-budgeted film. The film has made good numbers as it was produced at a cost of about $750,000 (around Rs 6.20 crore). Obsession made a net of Rs 7.50 crore on Day 10 from 2,788 shows. The film has now crossed Rs 43.15 crore in total India gross collections and Rs 36.10 crore in total India net collections.
